Dublin is generally a friendly city. But like other large cities, pickpocket, muggings, and unprovoked attacks occur in the city. Before you go to the city, you need to know some basic Dublin safety and emergency procedures.

People of Dublin are notorious for bending rules and disobeying authorities. Dublin authorities not have enough resources or power to enforce rules and standards. So you must be very careful when you roam around unfamiliar surroundings.

Common sense is the keyword when you are in Dublin. Do not walk in dark and unpopulated streets at night, especially when you are alone. There are a lot of taxis in the city 24/7, which are usually safe and friendly. Nitelink buses are usually safe, but they have a fair share of troubles. Sit downstairs as much as possible. The Luas Red Line is also generally safe, but it passes through some poor and dangerous areas. Leave nothing valuable in your car and try to blend in. Do not announce to the world you are a tourist.

But do not let these safety issues dampen your visit to the city. Dublin safety and emergency procedures have improved over the last 20 years. Many areas previously notorious for criminal activities have been transformed into vibrant areas that house young professionals.
